Federal Power Ministry Directs Over 100 Captive Coal Plants to Run at Full Capacity from October 1

- India's federal power ministry has ordered more than 100 captive coal-fired power plants, each with installed capacity of at least 50 megawatts, to operate at maximum capacity from October 1 through year-end to meet an expected rise in electricity demand.

Muthoot FinCorp Becomes Title Sponsor of BCCI International Matches in Rs 150 Crore Deal

- The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has roped in Muthoot FinCorp as title sponsor for all international matches organised by the board till March 2028 for up to Rs 150 crore.
- Muthoot FinCorp's per-match payout is up to Rs 4.3 crore, lower than the Rs 4.85 crore per-match base price sought by the BCCI for 35 matches in the current cycle.
- The previous title sponsor, IDFC First, paid Rs 4.2 crore per match for the previous cycle of 56 matches that ended in August, under a three-year agreement worth Rs 235.2 crore secured in 2023.
- The BCCI floated the title sponsorship tender on July 20 with an initial bid deadline of August 13, later extended to September 7, but did a direct deal with Muthoot FinCorp after failing to find a partner through the tender process.
- The BCCI also roped in Campa, SBI Life and ChatGPT as associate partners for bilateral cricket involving Team India, with combined deal value of over Rs 130 crore, a 44% jump over the previous cycle.
- Campa Cola emerged as the highest associate partner bidder at Rs 1.31 crore per match, followed by ChatGPT and SBI Life at Rs 1.2 crore each, while Bisleri and Indian Oil Corporation also bid Rs 1.2 crore per match.
- The BCCI raised the reserve price for associate partner rights to Rs 95 lakh per match from Rs 82 lakh previously.
- Sports sponsorship spending in India reached Rs 7,942 crore in 2025, growing 7% year-on-year, with cricket's share of the sponsorship market rising to 89% from 85%, according to WPP Media's Sporting Nation report.
- Key BCCI deals include a front-of-jersey sponsorship agreement with Apollo Tyres worth Rs 579 crore and a Rs 145 crore deal with Asian Paints.
