India signs Rs 811 crore deal with BDL for 160 satellite-guided anti-airfield weapons for IAF

Key facts

• The Defence Ministry signed a Rs 810.79 crore contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) on September 23, 2026, in New Delhi, in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, for procurement of 160 Satellite Smart Anti Airfield Weapons (SAT-SAAW) with associated equipment for the Indian Air Force (IAF) under the Buy (Indian - Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category.
• SAT-SAAW is an indigenously designed and developed air-to-ground precision guided glide bomb by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), launchable from Jaguar, Hawk and Su-30 MKI platforms, capable of neutralising enemy airfields from long stand-off range.
• The weapon has 60% indigenous content, with sub-systems like the Initial Measurement Unit, Long Impact Delay Fuse and Twin Store Carrier to be indigenised, and deliveries are scheduled between 2027-2028 and 2028-2029.
