Indian Railways Clears ₹493 Crore Mukutban-Gadchandur Railway Line Project in Maharashtra

- Indian Railways has approved a ₹493 crore new railway line between Mukutban in Yavatmal district and Gadchandur in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra, under South Central Railway.
- The 38.21-km line is expected to handle around 6.08 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of freight, including coal and coke, cement, sponge iron, iron and steel, metal scrap, fertilisers and foodgrains.
- The new line will provide an alternative route to the busy Wardha-Manikgarh section and reduce reliance on the Balharshah-Nagpur High-Density Network route.
- The corridor will create a direct connection to the Majri-Nanded railway route and support two MEMU services in each direction every day.
- The Ministry of Railways announced the approval on September 18, 2026.
