Key facts

• Mandeep K Bhandari, a 2001-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, has been appointed chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
• He has been appointed in the rank and pay of an Additional Secretary to the Union government, with the CBSE chairperson post temporarily upgraded for the appointment.
• The appointment comes nearly four months after the then CBSE chairperson Rahul Singh was transferred and Lokhande Prashant Sitaram was appointed CBSE chairperson on June 2.
• A one-member inquiry committee headed by S Radha Chauhan, chairperson of the Capacity Building Commission, was constituted to examine the procurement of services for CBSE's on-screen marking (OSM) system.
• Ankita Mishra Bundela, Additional Secretary in the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, has been moved to the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education as Additional Secretary.
