Ladakh Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena approved a 233% hike in the monthly honorarium of nambardars (village heads, locally called gobas), raising it from ₹1,500 to ₹5,000 for 247 nambardars — the first revision since 2016.
The decision followed a September 19 meeting between a delegation of nambardars and the Lieutenant Governor, after which the LG directed the chief secretary to review their pay structure.
The revised emoluments were fixed under the Jammu and Kashmir Lambardari Act, 1972, and the Jammu and Kashmir Lambardari Rules, 1980, as applicable to Ladakh, and will take effect once officially gazetted.
