FSSAI Takes Penal Action Against Amazon, Swiggy Instamart, BigBasket, Flipkart and Zepto Over Misleading Claims and Prohibited Foods

• The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has initiated penal action against e-commerce platforms Amazon, Swiggy Instamart, BigBasket, Flipkart India and Zepto for regulatory non-compliances, including misbranding/misleading claims and the sale and display of prohibited or poisonous food articles.
• The action against Amazon Seller Services, Swiggy Instamart and BigBasket relates to the sale, display and offer for sale of Datura (Dhatura) fruits/seeds, violating provisions of the FSS Act, 2006.
• FSSAI acted over misleading claims related to the product 'Happilo Premium Date Bites - Zesty Orange' and over non-compliant product information for Milky Mist dairy products, including Milky Mist Fresh Low Fat Cream, Milky Mist Farm Fresh Curd and Milky Mist Greek Yoghurt, on Swiggy Instamart and BigBasket.
• Over the last six months, FSSAI has stepped up enforcement actions against food business operators and e-commerce companies and has been informing consumers about these actions through social media.
