APEDA Flags Off GI-Tagged Gulbarga Tur Dal Shipment from Karnataka to Maldives

• The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitated the export of one metric tonne of GI-tagged Gulbarga Tur Dal from Karnataka to the Maldives, with the consignment flagged off on September 24, 2026.
• Farmers receive Rs 82 per kg through the export-linked channel against the prevailing market price of Rs 60 per kg, over 30 per cent higher realisation.
• The consignment was exported by Mysuru-based Silken Global Exports and Imports through an FPO-led brand and will be transported to the Maldives by sea.
• Gulbarga Tur Dal, associated with the Kalaburagi region of Karnataka, received Geographical Indication (GI) registration in 2019.
• APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev highlighted the export as an opportunity to build the product's global identity and expand markets for GI-tagged agricultural products.
