Supreme Court permits green firecrackers in Delhi-NCR on November 7 and 8 during fixed hours for Diwali

Key facts

• The Supreme Court has allowed the bursting of green firecrackers in Delhi-NCR from 6 am to 7 am and 8 pm to 10 pm on November 7 and 8, ahead of Diwali on November 8.
• The court prohibited bursting of fireworks within a 300-metre radius of hospitals, nursing homes, primary and district health centres, old-age homes and notified silence zones.
• The Supreme Court banned the manufacture or sale of firecrackers joined in series and garlands, and barred firecrackers containing barium or not approved by CSIR-NEERI as green crackers.
• Authorities in Delhi-NCR were directed to stop the flow of illegal and conventional firecrackers, with the complete ban on firecrackers to be restored from November 9.
