Key facts

  • WWF-India's Programme Centre – Resource Partner (PC-RP), supported by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, launched a nationwide Green Diwali Campaign running from 20 October 2026 to 8 November 2026, urging citizens to avoid firecrackers and celebrate a cracker-free Diwali in line with Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment).
  • The campaign will reach schools, colleges, educational institutions, resident welfare associations and local communities, with a special focus on the 130 cities covered under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).
  • Under the Green Diwali Pledge, citizens are urged to avoid firecrackers, use diyas and energy-efficient lights, avoid single-use plastic, segregate waste and choose local products, with pledge drives organised through assemblies, classes, rallies and community meetings.
  • Citizens are also encouraged to take WWF-India's Carbon Footprint Survey, and participating institutions must submit activity details, dates, participant numbers, geo-tagged photographs and brief reports via an online form; selected entries may be featured on EIACP websites and social media platforms.
