INCOIS Chief T M Balakrishnan Nair Chosen to Head UNESCO-IOCINDIO

• Dr T M Balakrishnan Nair, Director of the Hyderabad-based Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), has been elected Chair of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission's Sub-Commission for the Central Indian Ocean (IOCINDIO).
• Dr Turki Al-Saeed of Kuwait and Dr Rezah M Badal of Mauritius were elected Vice-Chairs of IOCINDIO, pending formal confirmation of their appointments.
• Dr Nair is a founding member of INCOIS with over 25 years of experience in operational oceanography, marine science and real-time ocean observation systems.
• Working under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Dr Nair has led advancements in ocean state forecasting and marine meteorological services and has received the National Geoscience Award.
