EyeROV Delivers India's First Indigenous Military-Grade Underwater Robots to the Indian Navy

Key facts
- Kerala-based company EyeROV has delivered two EyeROV TROUT military-grade underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) systems to the Indian Navy, the first supply of a military-standard underwater robotic platform fully designed, developed, manufactured and qualified in India.
- The ₹47 crore order for five TROUT systems was announced in September 2025 under the iDEX DISC 7 SPRINT Challenge, with the remaining three systems expected to follow.
- The TROUT is rated for 300-metre depth and is designed for underwater inspection, surveillance and reconnaissance, search and recovery, detection and robotic intervention, including in poor visibility and strong currents.
- The systems passed field trials covering manoeuvrability, deep-dive capability, endurance and operator control, and cleared the Directorate of Quality Assurance (Naval) quality assurance framework along with Environmental Stress Screening requirements.
- EyeROV, registered as IROV Technologies Private Limited and based at Maker Village in Kalamassery, was founded by IIT alumni Johns T. Mathai and Kannappa Palaniappan P., has completed over 100 underwater deployments, and has supplied systems to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
