- The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the increase in Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for all mandated Rabi crops for the marketing season 2027-28.
- The MSP for wheat was raised by 1% to ₹2,610 per quintal for the 2027-28 marketing season.
- Safflower received the biggest MSP increase of ₹675 per quintal, a rise of 10.3% to ₹7,215 per quintal.
- The MSP for rapeseed and mustard was increased by ₹413 per quintal (6.7%) to ₹6,613 per quintal.
- The MSP for barley was raised 6.3% to ₹2,286 per quintal, masur dal by 5.6% to ₹7,390 per quintal, and gram by 1.4% to ₹5,958 per quintal.
- The announced MSPs carry a margin of 50% to 106% over the all-India weighted average cost of production, with wheat at 106%, rapeseed and mustard at 96%, lentil at 92%, gram at 59%, barley at 58%, and safflower at 50%.
- Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated the government policy ensures farmers get a profit of at least 50% over their average cost of production.
- The MSP amount paid to wheat-growing farmers during 2014-15 to 2025-26 rose to ₹7.31 lakh crore, compared with ₹2.56 lakh crore during 2004-05 to 2013-14.
