Veteran actor Anant Nag has been chosen for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2024 for his contribution to Indian cinema, with the announcement made by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on September 16, 2026.
He will receive the honour at the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony on September 22, 2026, at Ekta Nagar in Kevadia, Gujarat, which honours achievements in Indian cinema for the year 2024.
Born Anant Nagarkatte on September 4, 1948, he has acted in over 300 films across Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Marathi, and appeared in the Doordarshan series Malgudi Days.
He made his Kannada film debut as a lead actor in Sankalp and his Hindi film debut with Shyam Benegal's Ankur.
He has won five Karnataka State Film Awards for Best Actor and five Filmfare Awards, and was conferred the Padma Bhushan in 2025.
He served as a Member of the Karnataka Legislative Council from 1988 to 1994 and as a Member of the Legislative Assembly from 1994 to 1999, including as Minister of State for Bangalore City Development.
