Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath Launches Zero-Commission Bharat Taxi in Five Cities

Key facts

• Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched Bharat Taxi, a cooperative-led zero-commission ride-hailing platform, in the state on 23 September 2026.
• The service is operational in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Kanpur and Prayagraj, offering drivers social security coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh and a stake in the cooperative's ownership.
• Bharat Taxi is operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited, allowing taxi, two-wheeler and three-wheeler drivers to register without surrendering commission; driver-members are called Sarathis.
• During the Lucknow launch, five drivers received share certificates, and MoUs were signed with Lucknow Airport, Lucknow Metro and Lucknow Police.
• Union Minister of State for Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol said over 10 lakh Sarathis joined Bharat Taxi within six months of its February 2026 launch, with around 20,000 daily rides.
• Chief Minister Adityanath directed the Transport Department to explore extending the Bharat Taxi model to rural bus services.
• Bharat Taxi has already been rolled out in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
