Karnataka Cabinet Grants Tulu Additional Administrative Language Status in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada

Key facts

• Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced after a Cabinet meeting in Mangaluru that Tulu would be made the state's second additional administrative language, applicable to Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts.
• The Cabinet approved a new tourism policy for the Malnad and coastal regions, under which tourism projects will be treated as infrastructure projects and investors will be offered incentives.
• The Cabinet approved the Karnataka Marine Biotechnology Policy, 2026-31, under which a Fisheries, Marine and Blue Economy University will be established by upgrading an existing college, with intake increased from 60 to 200 seats.
• On the demand to rename Dakshina Kannada district as Mangaluru district, the government will issue a draft notification and invite public opinion for a month before a final decision.
• The Cabinet approved projects worth about Rs 32,611 crore, including around Rs 16,000 crore for rural development and another Rs 16,000 crore for Mangaluru, Udupi and the coastal region.
• The Karnataka government will hold Cabinet meetings at 10 to 12 places across the state over the next 15 months under the approach 'Samagra Karnataka, Samruddha Karnataka'.
• A medical college costing around Rs 450 crore was sanctioned for the region.
