India Secures 10th Position at 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai with 6 Silver Medals and 20 Medals for Excellence

Key facts

• India secured 10th position at the 48th WorldSkills Competition held in Shanghai, China, from 22–27 September 2026, winning 6 Silver Medals and 20 Medal for Excellence, improving upon its 13th-place finish at WorldSkills Lyon 2024.
• India's largest-ever contingent of 70 competitors participated across 63 skills, competing against over 1,400 competitors from around 70 countries and regions.
• Silver Medals were won by Smriti Nambiar (Bakery), Mohammed Salam (Dental Prosthetics), Kovid Ajay Gangrade (Digital Interactive Media Design), Parth Vohra (Industrial Design Technology), Mehrunissa Begum (Logistics and Freight Forwarding), and Saniya Joshi (Retail Sales).
• Smriti Nambiar, Silver Medallist in Bakery, was recognised as Best of Nation for India.
• India debuted in 11 new skill categories, including Dental Prosthetics, Unmanned Aerial Systems, Software Testing, Heavy Vehicle Technology and Aircraft Maintenance.
• India's participation was coordinated by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).
• At WorldSkills Lyon 2024, India had won 4 Bronze Medals and 12 Medal for Excellence.
