Key facts

  • India's Directorate General for Trade Remedies (DGTR) has initiated anti-dumping investigations into seven products from China, including Para-tert-Octyl Phenol Formaldehyde Tackifier Resin, Penicillin G and its salts, 6-Amino Penicillanic Acid, T-Shaped Elevator/Lift Solid Guide Rails, Amoxycillin Trihydrate, Montelukast Sodium, and Copolymer Polyol, following complaints from domestic manufacturers.
  • The DGTR is also probing dumping of AD-Isopropyl Alcohol from the European Union, South Korea, Taiwan and the United States, and Pentaerythritol from Russia.
  • If dumping causing material injury is established, the DGTR recommends anti-dumping duties, but the finance ministry takes the final decision on imposing them.
  • India's exports to China rose 36.66 per cent to USD 19.47 billion in 2025-26, while imports rose 16 per cent to USD 131.63 billion, swelling the trade deficit to an all-time high of USD 112.6 billion from USD 99.2 billion in 2024-25.
  • The DGTR has started an anti-circumvention investigation, filed by DOZCO India, into allegations that anti-dumping duties imposed in June 2024 on Chinese and Korean Alloy Steel Chisel/tool and Hydraulic Rock Breakers are being avoided by routing the product through Malaysia.
  • The DGTR has initiated a sunset review of countervailing duties on imports of copper tubes and pipes from Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, based on applications by Ram Ratna Wires Limited and MetTube Copper India.
  • Anti-dumping duties are imposed under the multilateral regime of the Geneva-based World Trade Organisation (WTO), of which both India and China are members.
