India Launches Digital Livestock Insurance Portal in New Delhi on 28 September 2026

• The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, is launching a Livestock Insurance Portal on 28 September 2026 in New Delhi.
• The portal is a single digital platform under the Livestock Insurance Scheme for policy issuance, claim processing, monitoring, and reporting, and will operate in 11 regional languages besides Hindi and English.
• The Livestock Insurance Scheme is a subsidy-based scheme for cattle, pigs, and rabbits, where small and marginal farmers pay 15% of the premium with the Centre and states sharing the remaining 85%.
• The scheme provides subsidised coverage for up to 10 cattle units per beneficiary household, with separate limits for pigs and rabbits.
• During the latest five-year reference period, 60.8 lakh animals were insured and claims worth ₹161.07 crore were released under the scheme.
• The initiative is part of the National Livestock Mission, a central sector scheme, and the government is examining radio-frequency identification tagging for animal identification and claim settlement support.
