India Joins First-Ever Partners for Multilateralism (P4M) Summit at UN as Jaishankar Urges Reformed Multilateralism

• India co-sponsored and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar co-chaired the first-ever 'Partners for Multilateralism, International Law, Peace & Prosperity (P4M)' Summit, held on the margins of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly along with leaders of Australia, Barbados, Brazil, Canada and Kenya.
• Jaishankar said reformed multilateralism is essential, with more participative deliberations and more transparent decision-making overdue, and highlighted the '4F' crisis of fuel, food, fertiliser and finance.
• Other co-sponsors at the summit included European Council President Antonio Costa, Kenyan President William Ruto, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley, Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira and Canadian Permanent Representative David Lametti.
• Australia announced its candidature for a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council for 2029-30.
• The summit was held at a time when the 15-nation UN Security Council remains deeply divided among its five permanent members - China, France, Russia, UK and the US.
