British-Ghanaian rap artist Sway DaSafo passes away aged 44

• Award-winning British-Ghanaian rap artist Sway DaSafo has died at the age of 44.
• His death at his home in Ghana was confirmed by his friend Kash Ahmad, and no cause of death has been announced.
• Born Derek Andrew Safo in London, he was raised in north London and honed his craft on pirate radio.
• He was the first unsigned rapper to win a Mobo Award, taking the prize in 2006.
• In September 2005 he was named best hip-hop act at the Mobo awards, and his 2006 debut album This Is My Demo earned a Mercury Prize nomination.
• Diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in 2010, he went into remission the same year and released his biggest hits Still Speedin' and Level Up in 2012.
• Through his record label Dcypha, he signed and developed artists including Tiggs Da Author and KSI.
• He is survived by two sons, Jalil and Ammar-Joseph, and twin daughters, Queen-Inaya and Queen-Imara, whom he was raising as a single parent in Ghana.
