Anupriya Patel Launches 7th National Formulary of India 2026 at 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week in New Delhi

• Union Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilizers, Anupriya Patel, launched the 7th Edition of the National Formulary of India (NFI) 2026 on 21 September 2026 at the 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week programme organised by the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi.
• The 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week is observed from 17 to 23 September 2026 with the theme Promoting Rational Use of Medicines through Pharmacovigilance: A Step Towards Safer Healthcare.
• The NFI 2026 comprises 34 chapters, 20 appendices and 653 drugs, including 42 fixed-dose combinations and 30 immunologicals, and has been published periodically by IPC since 2009.
• India has risen from the 123rd position during 2009 to 2014 to 8th globally in contributions to the WHO patient safety database.
• The Government approved the Biovigilance Programme of India, with IPC playing a lead role in monitoring adverse events linked to biological products used in organ and tissue transplantation.
• Around 25 countries recognise the Indian Pharmacopoeia, and IPC became a member of the Pharmacopoeial Discussion Group in 2023.
• Around 1,150 ADR reporting centres are operational across public and private hospitals and medical colleges in India.
