Amit Shah Flags Off India's First LNG-Powered Train Along with ₹1,472 Crore Railway Projects at Sabarmati

• Union Home Minister Amit Shah flagged off India's first LNG-powered train from Sabarmati Railway Station in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and inaugurated railway development projects worth ₹1,472 crore.
• A WAG-12 Maintenance Shed was constructed at Sabarmati at a cost of ₹700 crore for the maintenance of railway locomotive engines.
• The 'Kavach' train protection system was introduced on the Sabarmati-Kalol-Sabarmati rail section at a cost of ₹48 crore, with works commencing on the Ahmedabad-Palanpur and Ahmedabad-Samakhiali rail sections.
• A 12,000-horsepower twin-section WAG-12 locomotive, capable of hauling freight equivalent to nearly 600 trucks, was commissioned, replacing the earlier requirement of two locomotives.
• The successful trial of India's first double-stack long-haul container train from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), Mumbai, to Vadodara was completed.
• Indian Railways' diesel consumption declined from 293 crore litres in 2015-16 to 108 crore litres in 2024-25.
• Railway electrification reached 99.6 per cent of the network, with 7,188 kilometres electrified in a single year in 2023-24.
• The Gujarat railway budget rose from ₹589 crore during 2009-2014 to ₹17,366 crore for 2026-27.
