Aadhaar Biometric Authentication Now Compulsory for LPG Subsidy Refills from October 1, 2026

Key facts

• From October 1, 2026, Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) is mandatory for domestic LPG consumers booking refills at the regulated retail selling price with subsidy, as announced by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.
• As of September 19, 2026, around 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers, or 89.9 per cent, had completed the authentication process.
• BAA can be completed during LPG delivery, at the distributor's showroom, or through OMC mobile apps such as IndianOil ONE (Indane), HelloBPCL (Bharatgas) and HP PAY (HP Gas).
• Consumers who do not complete BAA can still receive LPG at the applicable market price without subsidy, in 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders, after registering their choice through OMC digital channels.
• The authentication aims to ensure subsidised LPG reaches genuine consumers, identify duplicate or ineligible connections, and prevent diversion of subsidised cylinders for commercial or industrial use.
• The implicit subsidy on a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder was around Rs 210 in September 2026, down from Rs 721 per cylinder in June 2026.
• Consumers yet to complete BAA are advised to do so before October 1, 2026; the toll-free helpline for LPG services is 1800 2333 555.
